A red haired broadcaster from Commenor was seated in front of a desk with the Holonet logo behind her. She neatly positioned some readouts in front of her and then began to speak.
"Hi I'm Dawa Twen with news from across the galaxy. Our main headlines today are that smuggling is estimated to rise on a five hundred percent increase" the newscaster read out with an astonished tone, "Due to the Supreme Commander's taxation laws, many traders are simply being pushed to the edge of survival and smuggling is not now seen like an asset to gangsters, but a necessary living to survive. Intelligence analysts advising the Holonet Network have stated that already the prices of goods are coming into starports and not selling. They believe that it isn't that the demand is not there, but the taxation laws mean that sellers are having to put the one-hundred and fifty percent increase on their goods. If this continues amongst all trade routes, then the price of common food outside of Imperial Territory is set to triple within a week. Several planetary systems have condemned the Supreme Commander's judgement as a poor choice and others have even gone as far to say this is to weaken surrounding systems. The pressure is felt across the galaxy with only small havens where planets produce enough to survive". The newscaster stopped for a second, about to raise her hand to her left ear, but froze and put it back down on the table. She coughed and then began again. "Some breaking news this lunchtime, Empress Jalua I of the Imperial Coalition states that planets under her rule will not be affected by food shortages and price fluctuation will be minimal".
Another newscaster appeared under the flashing title of 'Live in Salanda', where a group of people from all species were present. "What would you make of the announcement made today?" the newscaster asked in a positive town, and a Caamasi immediately responded. "The Imperial Coalition will have enough production to survive the tax increases along it's borders. There will be a slight increase in the price of goods, but it probably won't affect the majority of Coalition citizens", immediately afterwards, a Sullustan added his opinion. "Although Coalition systems might not be affected, those surrounding their borders will suffer the most. Because of trade routes with the Imperial Coalition being so strong and vital to them, once the convoys leave Coalition space the taxation will increase. It is these planets which will have to find alternative sources of the most essential of items, and that will be tricky with every planet doing the same but with a much better position. What the Empress will no doubt do with this is accept struggling planets under the Coalition banner, possibly restoring the Coalition Assembly to unite planets not entirely under the Empress' control. It would be a wise move for both parties, the Coalition would get much needed territory to continue it's fantastic growth and those systems will be much economically safer within Coalition borders".
"What we will also see-" a strong voiced Quarren announced boldly, "-a substantial increase in criminal activity. Normal citizens will be forced to rely on smugglers and the authorities will either have to stop smuggling by force or allow it in to keep their economies ticking over. Either way, we could see many new wars between planetary systems over resources in the next few months" he concluded with a audible sigh.
